Sipher AI Copilot

Sipher AI is an AI assistant embedded directly in your inbox. It can answer questions about your emails, summarise threads, extract action items, and draft replies — all running on SipherMail's own self-hosted servers. Nothing goes to OpenAI or any other third-party AI.

How to open Sipher AI

There are two ways to access Sipher AI:

  • 4th-pane (in-thread): Open any email thread and click the Sipher AI button (sparkle icon) in the message toolbar. This opens a chat panel on the right side of the thread — Sipher AI automatically loads the full thread as context and is ready to answer questions about that specific conversation.
  • Full Copilot page: Click Sipher AI in the sidebar (or go to /copilot). This opens a full-page chat with access to your entire inbox for broader queries.

What Sipher AI can do

  • Summarise threads — "Summarise this thread" gives a bullet-point overview.
  • Extract action items — Lists tasks mentioned in the thread.
  • Draft a reply — Generates a contextual reply draft you can edit and send.
  • Answer questions — "When did Alice last email me?" searches your inbox in real time.
  • Find emails — "Show me invoices from last month" retrieves matching threads.
  • Meeting detection — "Create a calendar invite from this thread" extracts time/location and prepares a draft event.

Thread context loading

When you open Sipher AI from within a thread, it automatically fetches the full conversation via JMAP and loads it as context. If the thread is very large, only the most recent messages are loaded. You can always paste additional content into the chat.

Memory

Sipher AI builds a personalised memory of your communication style, preferences, and recurring contacts. This memory is used to improve reply suggestions and make responses more relevant.

  • View memories: Settings → Sipher AI → Memories
  • Delete all memories: Settings → Sipher AI → Clear Memory
  • Memories are stored on SipherMail servers and are never shared with third-party AI providers.

Suggestion chips

When the chat pane first opens for a thread, three suggestion chips appear: Summarise this thread, Extract action items, and Draft a reply. Clicking a chip immediately sends that query — no need to type.

Privacy

All AI processing runs on SipherMail's own GPU servers in Falkenstein, Germany (Hetzner). Your emails are processed in memory only and are not stored by the AI system. See the Privacy Policy for full detail.
